“Salem Lot 93” Bier Trinken (Drink Beer) Talk & TastingSaturday, April 18, 2015
Noon, 2 p.m., & 4 p.m.
Single Brothers' Workshop
(10 W. Academy Street)

In conjunction with the limited edition release of Salem Lot 93 brewed by Small Batch Beer Co., this 45-minute program at Old Salem includes brief talk on the history of the Single Brothers’ Brewery, the first in North Carolina. The Single Brothers’ Brewery & Distillery, was operated by the men of the Single Brothers’ House and they opened it in 1773 on Salem Lot 93 at the western edge of town. Then hear how Small Batch’s brew master utilized the 18th Century receipt (recipe) translated from German to create the limited edition Salem Lot 93 beer.  Following the discussion, taste this authentic beer alongside a comparable modern day Small Batch craft beer (6 oz. pour of each beer) to better understand the differences of today’s craft brews to those of the 18th Century.

To accompany your beer tasting, authentic ginger cakes (cookies) made from the Miksch Bake Oven in Old Salem will be served along Winkler Bakery cheese stars. Attendees may choose to just attend the tasting event or to attend the tasting and take home a handmade stein made here at Old Salem by one of our talented tradesmen!
