Seminar: How to Identify a Salem School Longrifle
Join C. Michael Briggs and Old Salem gunsmith Blake Stevenson for a day of longrifle discovery. As they prepare a publication on the longrifle makers of the Salem School, Briggs and Stevenson invite you to bring your historic artifacts, portraits, or other information related to the longrifle makers of Forsyth County to be identified and documented.
For more than 100 years, Moravian gunsmiths crafted rifles for use in the Carolina backcountry and beyond. From plain “lock, stock, and barrel” rifles to fancy carved and silver-inlaid rifles, they all help tell the story of the craftspeople that produced the item, the frontiersmen who used them, and the families that collected America’s true decorative art form- the longrifle.
This event is free and open to the public.
