Grade 4 & 5

GRADES 4 & 5 This 2 1/2 hour, hands-on tour focuses on the growth and development of North Carolina and the United States and the impact of early settlers on our culture. All tours are led by costumed museum educators.
Students will: * Experience formal schooling for children in Salem in a 19th century classroom setting. * Learn how clothing was made by carding, spinning and weaving wool.
* Prepare a seasonal recipe on the hearth. * Tour a family home and other selected sites in Salem.
Students participating in craft activities will: * Learn about the Moravian system of apprenticeship by making a simple pot on a kick wheel. * Tour selected trade shops in Salem.
