GRADE 7 This 2 1/2 hour, hands-on tour focuses on the experiences of the African people in Salem and how their culture influenced art, music, food and belief systems. Each tour is led by costumed museum educators.
Students will: * Prepare an African recipe on the hearth. * Visit Historic St. Philips, the African Moravian Church Complex in Salem, to explore the Africa/North Carolina connection. * Learn the story of Sambo, an enslaved African in Salem, using artifacts that show many features of West African society, including art, music and religious beliefs.
