Old Salem Hires Vice President of Development
Winston-Salem, N.C. – Tom Connors has been named the Vice President of Development at Old Salem Museums & Gardens to help guide fundraising and development efforts for the museum and its many attractions.
Connors reports to Lee French, Old Salem’s President and CEO. In his new post, Connors is responsible for all development and fundraising operations for Old Salem and for supervising the development staff.
Connors has a long association with universities and public institutions that make him well suited to lead Old Salem’s development strategies. Most recently, he was the headmaster of Massanutten Military Academy in Woodstock, Va. Prior to his work at the Academy, he spent nine years as the Executive Director and Vice President of Development of the Virginia Engineering Foundation at the University of Virginia School of Engineering. There, he led a successful capital campaign, doubling the fundraising goal of $37.5 million during the campaign and tripling it by the end of his tenure. Before that, he spent nine years as the Vice President and Treasurer of Sweet Briar College. He also served for many years as the Executive Vice President of J.W. Burress, Inc. in Winston-Salem, NC and Roanoke, VA.
Connors graduated from Cheshire Academy in Connecticut. He received a bachelor’s degree from Colby College and spent four years on active duty as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Connors is a long-time resident of North Carolina and Virginia. He and his wife, Jocelyn, are former residents of Lynchburg, Va. They now live in Winston-Salem.
French said, “Tom brings a wealth of expertise and accomplishment in the development arena, as well as in executive management, to his new post at Old Salem. He will be a terrific asset to our team and to this institution.”
