Throughout the year Old Salem Museums & Gardens hosts several special days for the Homeschooled. These days are for students and their parents to explore and learn about life in 18th and 19th century Salem. Join us this fall as we explore botany in Salem. Acitivites, hands-on demonstrations and puppet shows will teach children about the world of horticulture and botany in the Historic Town of Salem.
Activities Include:

- Learn how paper was made in early Salem and make a piece of handmade paper

- Make your own seed packet

- Create a botanical watercolor of the endangered de Schweinitz Sunflower

- Cooking demonstrations: Mushroom receipts and how to preserve the gardens bounty

- Puppet Shows at 10:30, 11:30, 1:00 and 2:00 - “The Cat of Nine Tales”

- Learn about herbs and their medicinal uses at the Vierling Apothecary

- Make a garden journal

- Take a garden tour with one of our horticulturists

- Visit with experts on backyard composting, mushroom growing and the preservation of the de Schweinitz Sunflower
Reservations can be made by calling Sales Reservations at 1-800-441-5305. Discounted Homeschool ticket prices of $8.00 per child and $10.00 per adult are available with advance reservations and prepayment. Sorry, no refunds. Reservations must be made by September 3, 2010 for the discounted ticket prices. If space is available tickets may be purchased the day of the event at full admission price. Tickets sold on event day only at the Old Salem Visitor Center. Reservations will be on a first come basis. Please phone in early as our spaces for this event fill quickly.
