Old Salem Museums & Gardens to Present Independence Day Celebration July 4

Winston-Salem, NC (June 23, 2017) —Old Salem Museums & Gardens will celebrate Independence Day with a day of fun activities for the whole family. Events will take place on July 4 from 9:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. throughout the historic district and will include a Naturalization Ceremony at 10 a.m.
The Naturalization Ceremony will last until 11 a.m. and will take place in the James A. Gray, Jr. Auditorium in the Old Salem Visitor Center at 900 Old Salem Road. The Ceremony will be conducted by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services staff. This will be the seventh year that Old Salem has hosted a Naturalization Ceremony. There will be special music, the Pledge of Allegiance, and the most moving and inspiring part of the event will be the administration of the Oath of Allegiance and the presentation of certificates to the new citizens. Additionally, there will be a keynote speech by Luis G. Lobo, the Executive Vice President and Manager of Multicultural Banking for BB&T in Winston-Salem. The Naturalization Ceremony is free and open to the public.
Additional events and activities that attendees at the ticketed Independence Day Celebration on July 4 can participate in include (subject to change):
- Listening to patriotic music
- Playing early American games
- Listening to a reading of the Declaration of Independence
- Painting a botanical watercolor
- Learning about African Americans who served in the Revolutionary War
- Cooling off by sampling 18th-century “cooling drinks”
- Watching historic medicines being made
- Seeing the gunsmiths at work
- And more!
The activities each day are included with the purchase of All-In-One tickets, which are $27 for adults and $13 for students ages 4-18.
