For the second consecutive year, Old Salem Museums & Gardens is partnering with Our State magazine to co-host an exclusive weekend behind-the-scenes look at one of America's most authentic historic attractions—Old Salem Museums & Gardens.  Participants will check in midday on Friday, March 28. The program will start at 2 p.m. that day and will end on Sunday, March 30.  You'll have unprecedented access to sights, sounds, and experiences at the historic buildings, heirloom gardens, and unparalleled collection of southern decorative arts.

Weekend Getaway $695 per couple and includes:   

  

  • - A chance to learn about Old Salem's restoration efforts, which began in 1950 and continue today.
  •  
  • - Special curator led tours of the galleries, research center, and library at the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts.
  •  
  • - A traditional Moravian dinner highlighting the music of Salem including a performance on the more than 200-year-old restored Tannenberg organ.
  •   
  • - A visit to the Single Brothers’ House, one of only 38 National Landmarks in North Carolina
  •   
  • - An exclusive "behind-the-scenes" tour of the Boys’ School, which will open to the public in 2015. You’ll learn about recent archeological research, historic preservation efforts, and the plans for exhibits and programming.

  • - An opportunity to see firsthand 18th-century gardening and cooking at the Miksch Garden & House and wood-fired baking at the 200-year-old C. Winkler Bakery.
  •   
  • - A hands-on museum class focused on either hearthside cooking, gunsmithing and longrifles or seed saving and heirloom gardening.

  • - A tour of exhibitions featuring needlework and cabinetmaking made in Salem in the 18th and 19th centuries hosted by the curator of both exhibitions.

  • - A southern supper followed by a gospel concert in the oldest standing African American church in North Carolina.

  • - An optional group outing to attend Home Moravian Church’s Sunday morning worship.
