Heirloom Puppet Theater - Building Image

In 1998 Old Salem’s first puppet show made its debut.  The show was based on a fable by Aesop with simple props and puppets.   Since that first show in 1998 the puppet program has grown and expanded becoming a much loved part of Old Salem thanks to the energetic and creative direction of Peggy Parks and her puppeteers.

Each puppet show is based on a historical event, legend or story from children’s literature.   Peggy, Deirdre and Camille lovingly handcraft each puppet complete with beautiful costume.  They also create all the props, paint the incredibly detailed scenery and backdrops, and write the script.

The next step is to audition voices that magically bring each character to life.  The voices are then recorded and music is added to enhance the production.  Then the rehearsals begin.

The historical based puppet performances are loved by young and old alike and make learning something new delightful for all ages.   Make a puppet show part of your trip to Old Salem.  School groups, families and the young at heart are welcome.
