  • Tour time: Variable.  Most visitors are spending the day at Old Salem.
  • Self-Guided Walking Tour of Historic Town of Salem. Costumed Interpreters, Trades People and Home Life Educators greet your participants in the historic buildings.
  • See masterpieces of southern craftsmanship in the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts‘ three self-guided galleries
  • Tour size: 10 Minimum
  • Ticket valid for two (2) consecutive museum days
  • Price: $27.00 per adult, Pricing varies during holiday season (November—January 1).

   Hands-On History Experience: Make and Learn

  • Available Monday–Friday, Hands-On Segment 10 am–12 pm or 1:00 pm – 3 pm
  • Two hour experience with hands-on activities including hearth cooking and tasting and making a craft and a guided tour of three (3) historic buildings.
  • Includes Footsteps through History Ticket (allow 3 hours minimum) valid for two (2) consecutive museum days

Hidden Town (The Historic District Walking Tour)

  • Learn the stories of many of the enslaved African Americans who lived in Salem from the early years of its founding in 1766 and of the African Moravian congregation that was organized in Salem in 1822.
  • Tour the St. Philips African Moravian Church, the oldest standing African American church in North Carolina.
  • Sit in original pews where the ending of slavery was announced by a Union Calvary Chaplain on May 21, 1865
  • Visit the African American Graveyard and view artifacts
  • Quietly spend some time in the “Tavern Room of Reflection for the Enslaved in Salem”
  • Offered Tuesdays through—Saturdays between 9:30 am and 3 pm
