Architecture of Historic Commercial Trades Workshops
Robbie King, Director of Restoration & Interpreted Environments, Old Salem Museums & Gardens.

Explore a bit of the Moravians’ trade industry through the architecture that housed it. This cottage industry was pivotal in the development and success of Salem and made its presence known through a prevalent and unique architectural formula. Trades spaces are limited to a few remaining examples, so see each one through the focused lens of function and design. Enjoy a deeper conversation and admire crafted items from the period. The session will conclude with an opportunity to experience the Schultz Shoe Shop, a trade building not typically open to the public. Questions, comments, and exuberant observations are always encouraged.
