Thirsty for a drop of history?  Join us for an exploration of the Moravian’s famed waterworks system.  Started in 1778, the system was the first municipal water network in the Southeast and set Salem apart as a thriving and advanced community.  Visited by George Washington in 1791, the amenity provided the Moravians with the uncommon privilege of indoor plumbing.  Learn more of this engineering achievement, lay hands on original sections of the system, and view locations served by the flow of Moravian ingenuity.  This offering is sure to quench your desire to dive deeper into the history of this unique community.

Tour will begin at the Salem Square Water Pump, across the street from T. Bagge Merchant.

Comfortable shoes and clothing are recommended. Some spaces have tight corridors. If you have a flashlight, bring it along! District-wide walking, extensive stairs, uneven pavement, gravel & stone walkways.
