Where Technology, History, and Imagination Meet: Reconstructing Colonial Bethabara in the Virtual World
Samantha Smith, Director of Bethabara Park
As Bethabara transitioned into a historic site in the 1960s, the first change on the landscape was to reconstruct the defensive fort or “palisade.” Like the fort, the historians at Bethabara were protective and selective in the narrative they told, allowing some stories in while keeping others out. Let’s examine how Bethabara has been “hiding behind the palisades” for the past few decades and what the staff of Historic Bethabara Park has been doing to bring it out from behind its protective and insulating shadow.
