Description:
Autograph book belonging to Elisabeth Spach (b. 1795). Leather binding, black with gilt border, corner design, and “E.S.” in center. First page inscribed. First 2 entries (signed) by Christina and John Vogler (E. Spach’s sister and brother-in law). Several watercolor illustrations throughout, including floral wreath, doves, pedestal. Lock of brown hair at center of book. Loose note inserted in book reads, “This is my great-aunt Lizzie Spach’s autograph album. Mary F. Patterson” (1844-1927). Latest date, 1851.
History:
Belonged to Elisabeth Spach, Christina Vogler’s sister. One page bears a watercolor illustration of a floral configuration surrounding an inscription, in German, ending with the initials “E.S.” and “H.B.”
