DESCRIPTION: A brass surveyor’s compass on wooden stand (C-53); it also has a matching cover.

Engraved near the center of this compass is John Vogler Salem NC. The engraving on the face of this piece illustrates Vogler’s skill at executing the somewhat florid engraving style popular in England at the close of the 18th century.

LABEL NOTES: This surveyor’s compass is one of the most intricate items known from John Vogler’s hand.
