DESCRIPTION: red earthenware plate with cream and green slip over red slip ground. Design of two tulips in cream and green with stylized foliage; everted rim has design of wide red slip band with green zigzag slip between two bands of cream slip.

LABEL NOTES: This plate is attributed to Gottfried Aust .

The plate descended in the Wall family of Randolph County, North Carolina. The donor’s grandmother-in-law lived around 1850 between Randleman and Sophia near the Old Plank Road. According to the donor, the previous owner used the plate as kitchen storage for keeping fat meat.
