DESCRIPTION: Cotton 30 square quilt; backing solid muslin; front alternating squares-plain muslin with stitched wreath with squares with pieced flower (central flower surrounded by buds) design; each flower composed of three contrasting fabrics-one red callico, one white with red tattersal design, and one with green leaf design; the whole quilt surrounded by border of these three fabrics (front only); edging of quilt (front and back) is 1/4″ strip of red, pink, and white plaid fabric.
History:
LABEL NOTES: Attached notes says: “Made by Lavenia Vogler about 1853. Loaned by her daughter [?] M. Fries;”
Note: This is an old note; the quilt was given to OSI in 1993 by Mr. and Mrs. Leinbach. Second note says: “Old quilt made by Lavenia Vogler about 1852 or 1853. “Mama Rosie [?] wants ‘Peggy’ L. to have it when she dies (for Margaret). Nov 11-1932-Dora & I packing quilts after the aux. showing 1936.”
