Description:
DESCRIPTION: Unglazed earthenware chicken roaster. Bulbous vessel was wheel thrown with one domed end and one flat end. Vessel was then flattened on one side and wire-cut lengthwise into two pieces that fit together. Domed end has air hole in center; opening between top and bottom is notched 1 1/2″ from flat end. Embossed decorative ring 1 1/4-1 1/2″ from domed end. Exterior has glazed appearence from baking of grease on surface.
History:
LABEL NOTES: According to seller’s source, this piece had been in continuous use as a chicken roaster from the time it was originally made until the time that it was acquired by seller. At the time that this chicken roaster was acquired by Old Salem, it still smelled faintly of grease.
