Gourd art is an ancient tradition stemming from Africa, Asia, and amongst the indigenous peoples of the Americas.  For centuries, gourds have been employed for practical uses, such as bowls and birdhouses, but have also been made into pieces of art.

This lovely painted gourd has been made by Winston-Salem artist, Leo Rucker.  The gourd used is a Bushel, not only carved and painted by Leo, but also grown.  Painted to resemble pottery with a removable lid, it is companion to the Large Pottery Gourd.  The gourd measures approximately 7.75″ in height x 5″ in width with an opening of 3″.  Signed by the artist.
