Description

Tart dishes were made in press molds and probably imitate a creamware form.  Two sizes appear on Salem pottery inventories from the first quarter of the nineteenth century.  Although they may have been used to make small pastries or tarts, they may also have functioned as sweetmeat dishes for dried fruits, nuts, or other delicacies.

Our reproduction Tart Dish, made by Old Salem Museums & Gardens potters, has been created with a lead-free terracotta glaze.  It measures approximately 6″ x 6″ x .75″.  It will arrive in a kraft-paper gift box with a “Handcrafted Salem 1766” tag.  Our dishes are food safe, but hand-washing only is advised.
