Flora Ann Bynum Society

Created to honor Flora Ann Bynum, a vital and essential member of the Southern garden history scene, this Society Level membership of the Gardens at Old Salem is dedicated to preserving history through landscape restoration and preservation.

In 1971, Flora Ann Bynum began the process of gathering information to restore the gardens and landscapes of early Salem.  Under her direction, Old Salem Museums & Gardens’ landscape restoration became a national leader among museum and preservation professionals.  The New York Times described Old Salem’s landscapes as one of the most authentic of any outdoor museum in America.

By establishing this Society in her honor, we can collectively carry on the legacy of this remarkable lady and ensure that her hard work continues to thrive and flourish well into the future.
