History
HISTORY: Some evidence suggests that the Young Mens Missionary Society’s first museum display was housed in the Boys School building. Henry Jacob Van Vleck was the first known president of this organization as he was named as such in an 1845 report of the Society’s activities (officers between the founding of the organization in 1840 and 1844 are not known to have been recorded). The location of the museum was moved in the next couple of years, but perhaps Van Vleck’s motivation for depicting the Boys’ School was to document the location of the museum.
