Tour Description: Don’t just watch & listen, grab a lantern, an apron and join us– Old Salem style! We need your help in preparing Salem’s Christmas Holiday treats. Our 2018 Christmas candlelight tours will involve you in real, hands-on baking. From the Moravian Love Feast buns in Winkler Bakery, to the famous Moravian gingerbread in the Miksch House, you will mix, knead, roll, and create some of the most important of Salem’s holiday treats. While you prepare the treats we will give you the history of each item and how those foods became a traditional part of Moravian Christmas.
Our potter also needs your help with Christmas preparations; lend a hand by glazing your own earthenware chocolate cup.
After all your hard work, join us around the fireplace in the Single Brothers Workshop kitchen to enjoy all of the goodies you just baked, decorate our Putz & pyramid tree, and toast Christmas with a special chocolate drink in your own handmade earthenware chocolate cup (P.S. – you get to take home the glazed chocolate cup as our gift!).
